DHS Announces Additional 22,000 H-2B Visas

Last week, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it will offer 22,000 additional H-2B visas for non-agricultural guest worker this year – increasing this year’s cap to 88,000. Six thousand of these visas will be designated for migrants from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Migrants from these countries have made up a large portion of the surge of migrants arriving at the United States’ southern border in recent months, seeking refuge from a complex web of problems plaguing their home countries. The Biden Administration’s expansion of H-2B visas demonstrates its commitment to creating lawful pathways to opportunities in the United States, according to DHS Secretary Mayorkas, along with giving U.S. employers the chance to hire seasonal workers in industries such as landscaping and tourism.
